Certified Passive House Tradesperson: Building Envelope (Course Syllabus)
This four-day course provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary to build to the most efficient and rigorous energy standard in the world. Open to all trade professionals—as well as designers and consultants—you will learn about the world’s most advanced construction standard, how to implement passive principles in your own projects and everything else required to become a PHI Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT).
The CPHT course, delivered by the Association for Energy Affordability (in partnership with the Passive House Academy), provides building contractors need to build to the exacting demands of the high performance Passive House Standard. Focused on building enclosure optimization, this course provides a foundation in passive house principles while stressing the importance of construction fundamentals and proper sequencing.
Participants will learn building techniques that minimize thermal bridging and maximize airtightness, while familiarizing with a variety of high performance materials and components. You will also be introduced to common passive house mechanical systems; including heat and energy recovery ventilation systems, heat pumps, and solar thermal systems. Participants will split their time between interactive classroom and hands-on training, providing access to common passive house materials as students construct a passive house building assembly.
